Her formal hula training began in 1983, and ʻuniki hula ʻailolo (graduation or rites of passage) occurred 17 years later in 2000, under the teaching of Kumu Hula William Kawaiponimoʻikapiʻolani Pili Correa (Hālau Hula o Pili) who was himself a kumu hula graduate of Hālau Hula o Maiki, Ka Papa ʻIlima. Her entire Hula training has been within the world-renowned Maiki Aiu Lake lineage (Leinaʻala Kalama Heine, Lahela Kaʻaihue, Coline Aiu, and Pili Correa). With appropriate approval under hula protocol, she started her ʻauana (modern hula) teaching career in 1997, and after her ʻUniki, began teaching ancient hula (kahiko), Hawaiian language and culture. Attendees can also take advantage of purchasing reasonably priced Hawaiʻi themed items and several unique Hawaiian artifacts in the silent auction. Proceeds benefit Aloha Āina O Hawaiʻi, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, supporting activities that promote the education of the general public about the customs, values, language, arts and crafts of the Hawaiian Culture.
